The ultimate care guide
A straw hat is the perfect companion for summer days – whether at the beach, in the city, or in a beer garden. But sand, sweat, or raindrops can take their toll. With the right care, your favorite hat will remain flawless for years. Here you'll learn how to gently clean a straw hat, remove stains, and store it properly.

What you'll need:
- Soft brush (e.g., a baby hairbrush or makeup brush).
- Microfiber cloth or soft cotton cloth.
- Lukewarm water + dish soap or vinegar-water mixture (1:1).
- Optional: Lemon juice for odors, sunlight for drying.
Step-by-step guide:
1. Remove surface dirt
- Gently brush the hat in the direction of the straw fibers (never against the grain!).
- Use the brush for corners and embellishments.
2. Treat stains
- Water stains: Rub them with a dry microfiber cloth.
- Grease stains: Dab them with a drop of dish soap on a damp cloth.
- Sweat marks: Mix vinegar and water (1:1), dab the affected areas.
3. Gently disinfect
- Dip the cloth in lukewarm water with a little dish soap.
- Gently wipe the inside of the hat (where sweat accumulates).
- Caution: Do not soak the straw – it can become wavy!
4. Let it dry
- Place the hat on a hat form or a bowl to maintain its shape.
- Dry it in the shade – direct sun can make straw brittle.
5. Storage
- Store the hat in a breathable box or in a dark place.
- Do not stack – this will deform the brim!
What you should NOT do:
❌ Put the hat in the dishwasher or washing machine .
❌ Use harsh chemicals (e.g., bleach).
❌ Dry with a hairdryer – heat destroys the fibers!
